Language Arts/Reading/Music/Band/Yearbook Teacher
Heather McGee Mrs. McGee will be the Reading/Language Arts teacher for the 8th grade and the language arts teacher for the 6-7 grade. She will also teach all music, band, and yearbook classes. Mrs. McGee was born and raised in Titusville, Pennsylvania. She headed to Alliance, Ohio, to attend Mount Union College; graduating in 1983 with her bachelor’s degree in communications and English. Heather says she was sure she was going to be the next great investigative journalist. Woodward and Bernstein, step aside! After a strong dose of reality and months of soul searching, she says she had the good sense to do what her heart had been insisting on all along. She returned to Mount Union and earned her teaching certification.
She began her public school teaching career at Piqua High School, teaching English and journalism. Three years later, she followed her sweetheart to San Antonio, Texas. There, she enjoyed five years teaching English at Southwest High School to freshmen and juniors, regular, honors, and gifted & talented classes. She then served as the writing specialist at McAuliffe Middle School in the same school district.
When Heather's husband, Bill, took a position at Wright Patterson AFB in early 1999, she found herself back in a familiar part of the country. She had the rare and wonderful opportunity to be the Director of Operations at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery in Dayton. After a few years, Heather decided to stay at home with her children, a chance she knew she'd only get once. Once her children were both in school, Heather decided that it was time for her to get back into the classroom every day. She is the current language arts teacher for the 6/7/8 grades as well as the music teacher and band teacher for grades 4-8. Squeezed into all of this, she still finds a bit of time to be an educational consultant for Usborne Books.
Heather and her family are members of Peace Lutheran Church in Beavercreek. She participate in weekly women’s Bible studies and is active in both children’s and music ministry. One of her favorite and most fulfilling events is their annual Vacation Bible School for which she is the storyteller. She also loves playing French horn in her church's brass choir.
I am looking forward to my time at Bethlehem Lutheran School. My prayer is that we face hard work with perseverance and that we experience and learn together with joy.
