Bethlehem's Extras
ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
Bethlehem Lutheran School has additional educational/physical training opportunities that positively set the school apart from other schools of similar size.
After School Programs
After school enrichment programs are held during the third quarter of each school year. These after school programs are taught by parent, staff, and church volunteers and vary each year. Past programs have included: sign language, sewing, wood working, jig saw puzzles, crafts, handbells, chimes, intramurals, cooking, French language and culture, book clubs, and a host of other programs.
Band
Beginning Band is offered after school to students in grade 4 or above. The goal of beginning band is to integrate these students into the School Band by December. The school band meets during school hours. After school band instruction is also offered for any band students who wish to receive additional instruction. There is no charge for band instruction but you do need to provide your own intstrument. Mrs. McGee will accomodate most students instrument choice. Call the school for more information.
Science Fair
Each year all students participate in the school Science Fair.
Kindergarten students submit a class project. Kindergarten students may also enter an individual project but it is not required. Students in grades 1-8 must submit a project and it is part of their science grade.
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade students may choose to do an experiment or build a model with a report.
3rd - 8th Grade projects must be an experiment complete with hypothesis, methods, and results.
Languages
Spanish is taught in grades 1-8 to help students increase their cultural knowledge and expand their interest to areas beyond the local classroom.
Art
The art teacher instructs our kindergarten through eighth grade classroom students throughout the year. The sessions include tempera painting, stitchery, tissue paper collage, scribble print, basic shapes and three-dimensional projects. Middle school students work on projects such as clay sculpture, metal tooling, tye dying, and weaving. Students also study the great artists of the world. Student projects are saved and subsequently displayed at the Festival of Arts even in May.
Young Authors' Day
An area author will visit the school during the third quarter. The author will generally read one of his or her books to the school. He/she will then visit each class and present a workshop which encourages the children to write and illustrate their own stories. |

SMALL SIZE
Because of our small size, classes at Bethlehem Lutheran School are able to participate in activities together. We have school programs each year including a Thanksgiving program and feast, a Christmas program, Grandparents Day, Veterans Day, Lutheran Schools Week, the all school musical, and the Festival of the Arts. |

STUDENT INTERACTION
Older students serve as chapel buddies to new and younger students. They also help in the Kindergarten classrooms; listening to students read, reading to them, helping after naptime, etc.
